Napa Valley Wine Train - Legacy Tour

A legacy is handed down over time, through family, tradition, and lots of wine. Your first tasting occurs onboard our open-air train car by your on-board Maitre’ D at the Napa Valley Welcome Sign, where upon concluding the tasting you will disembark for a photo opportunity at this legendary landmark. The legacy of Charles Krug Winery and V. Sattui Winery represents a combined winemaking history of over 200 years and some very fine vintages. Some say this is where it all began, and this is where your journey begins.

Included: Full-day 6-hour adventure through Napa Valley including; 3 hours on the train through Napa Valley, Welcome glass of sparkling wine, 4-course wine country-inspired meal, 1-hour vineyard tasting of 3 wines & photo opportunities at the Napa Valley Welcome Sign, 2 hours of tasting at Charles Krug and V. Sattui wineries of 7 wines

You’ll check-in at 9:45 am and depart in an open-air rail car at 10:15 am.  The train returns to the depot at 4:15 pm.

Drive from Napa to Healdsburg

Today you’ll head through wine country to the gem that is Healdsburg. You can either go straight west and up through Sonoma, the Valley of the Moon. Or, you can head north through Napa Valley and over the quiet hills from Calistoga. Whichever road you choose, you’ll drive past award-winning wineries, some smaller beauties, and lush vineyards. Healdsburg is the heart of northern Sonoma’s wine and local food community.

Savor the wines of Alexander Valley and Dry Creek on this exceptional excursion.  Discover the beauty of this fabled wine region, and taste the bounty on a country picnic, featuring fresh foods. Travel 10 – 12 gentle miles, visiting two wineries for an in-depth tour.  Some of the wineries include Pasterick, Longboard, Quivira, Montorana, Bella, Preston, Truett Hurst, Amista, Papa Pietro Perry, Kokomo, and Dry Creek, depending upon their harvest and press schedule.  Included is the use of hybrid bike and helmet, unlimited water, picnic lunch, and professional local guides.  This is suitable for all abilities.

Drive from Healdsburg to Moss Beach

Moss Beach is 30 miles south of San Francisco. Your route offers two options. You can simply get on 101 south, and head through the city straight to Moss Beach. This will take you about 1 hour and 45 minutes. You can also drive west out of Healdsburg, along the Russian River, to Highway 1 and the glorious Pacific. Highway 1 South takes you to San Francisco with some magnificent stops along the way. Bodega Bay, film location for Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds, extraordinary crab sandwiches, and fresh saltwater taffy could be your first stop. Farther south, you’ll see Tomales Bay, original home of Portuguese immigrants, the Point Reyes Lighthouse, glorious dairy farms, and Heidrun Meadery. Pull into Muir Woods for unforgettable views.

Shark Fin Cove, California

On the Map: a massive rock stands guard over a small cove full of geologic wonders just up the coast from Santa Cruz, visible from Highway 1 and just half a mile south of the town of Davenport, CA.

This stunning geological feature has inspired two interchangeable names: Shark Fin Cove and Shark Tooth Beach. Hundreds or thousands of years ago the shark fin was an extension of the mudstone cliff that encloses this beach. Over the years, the force of the crashing waves and whistling winds steadily eroded away the rock in a process called coastal geomorphology. The rock now stands as we see it today: A small island that catches the light at sunset so compellingly that photographers travel from all over the country to capture its timeless beauty.

Explore the Beauty of Half Moon Bay

Within Half Moon Bay, enjoy boutique shops, art galleries, pristine beaches, golf courses, farms and fantastic restaurants. Depending on the time of year you visit, there are many annual festivals that draw visitors from around the country. Whether you want to go for an easy bike ride, stroll through local galleries, shop for antiques, or take in the sea air as you ride horseback on the beach, you'll have an unforgettable experience. There are several scenic hiking trails like Devil's Slide Trail and San Pedro Valley County Park, as well as miles of recreational bike trails. Pillar Point Harbor is nearby and an ideal spot to discover the joys of open sea kayaking.

Sunset Sail in Monterey Bay

Sail this fabled bay as the sun sets. Take in the spectacular scenery while enjoying red and white wine, beer on tap, soft drinks, and hors d’oeuvres or gourmet pizza. This is the perfect sail for romance or simply to enjoy with friends.  When the sun sets over the bay, it often makes indescribably beautiful shapes and creates a golden glow. And, you’ll be there for it. Fall under the spell!

Santa Cruz, California

The mellow beach town of Santa Cruz on Highway 1 truly has something for everybody. There’s family fun and entertainment on the historic Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. This esplanade, right at the water’s edge, has arcade games, corn dogs, a wooden roller coaster, and an old-fashioned carousel. Downtown Santa Cruz often feels like a blast from the past.  Browse Bookshop Santa Cruz and dip into one of the organic restaurants. (This is a terrific spot for people-watching.) Nature lovers can board a boat for whale-watching (in season) or head to the hills for Big Basin Redwoods State Park. There are small, lovely wineries along this route, specializing in Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

In 1885 three visiting Hawaiian princes brought surfing to Santa Cruz when they rode the waves on redwood planks. This area still calls to surfers—take a lesson!  While you’re at the beach, head to the wharf.  At 2,700 feet, this pier is the longest on the west coast. Walk to the end and get a close-up view of surfers at Steamers Lane.  Or, in the evening, watch the boardwalk dazzle beneath colored lights. You can rent a kayak, a paddle board, or a motorboat.  Strike up a conversation with locals fishing from the pier and listen to tall tales.

View of Golden Gate Bridge from Baker Beach

Perhaps one of the most iconic sights in all of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge is an absolute must see. There are a few good spots to view it from, but one of the best is from Baker Beach. Not only do you get an awesome front row seat to the bridge, but you can dip your toes in the chilly Pacific.

Whether you're a first time visitor or a long-time local, San Francisco's Golden Gates welcome all.  While visiting this city on the bay be sure to ride the world famous Cable Cars, drive or walk Lombard street famously known as the "crookedest street in the world", check out historic Fisherman's Wharf where you can try the sourdough chowder bowl, gaze at the Painted Ladies, stroll through Chinatown, and get a sweet chocolate treat to end your day at Ghirardelli Square.
