Denver, Colorado
Denver, known as 'The Mile High City' is where urban sophistication meets outdoor adventure. Denver is an outdoor city known for its world-class cultural attractions, thriving craft breweries, chef-driven dining, and red-hot music scene, all within easy reach of the Rocky Mountains. If you want some outdoor scenery options inside Denver, City Park is known for the most iconic views of Denver’s skyline. The best spot to stand is at the back of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. A stop at the Denver Botanic Gardens is a nice add-on while you’re in the area. Take a city stroll! Walk down the 16th Street Mall where you will find shops, restaurants. The most charming parts are between Wynkoop and Curtis. Make a right at California St., walking west until you hit 14th street where you will find the Denver Convention Center and one of Denver’s visual landmarks, the giant sculpture “I See What You Mean,” most commonly referred to as the “Big Blue Bear”. Continue down 14th, past the Denver Center of the Performing Arts, until you hit Larimer Street. Now it’s time to take in some local history. Larimer Street between 14th and 15th is known as Larimer Square. The most striking feature of this area is the collection of beautifully restored historic 19th-century buildings that line either side of the street, which was saved from destruction in the 1960s thanks to the work of Denver developer and conservationist Dana Crawford.

Colorado’s Land of Water, Glenwood Springs, sits at the confluence of the Colorado and Roaring Fork rivers and is known the world over for its famous hot-springs amenities. You’ll find plenty of things to do in this historic town including: Eat a Coloradough donut (2430 S. Glen Avenue / 970 230-9056). The best donuts in town, these are made fresh daily. Bet you can’t stop at just one! Stop by the GS visitor center (802 Grand Avenue / CMC Building) in downtown Glenwood Springs. There you can chat with locals about what there is to see and do in GS and pick up maps and pamphlets. Ask them about the Doc Holiday Saloon! Check out the landmark Hotel Colorado (526 Pine St); completed in 1893, and designed in the style of the Villa de Medici in Italy. The same architects who designed the Hotel Colorado also created the Immigration Station at Ellis Island in New York. Notable guests include President Taft, the Unsinkable Molly Brown, President T. Roosevelt, and ‘20s Chicago gangster Diamond Jack Alterie. There are two historical museums in GS. The Frontier Museum (1001 Colorado Ave / 970 945-4448 / open 1-4pm) offers a replica of a typical pioneer household; discover more about ranching and mining in the area; learn about the Ute Indians and their connection to the region. The Doc Holliday Museum (Bullock’s Western Store lower level / 732 Grand Avenue / 970-945-9175 / opens 10AM) focuses on the life, legend and lore of John Henry (Doc) Holliday. There are photos and drawings of Doc, his pocket watch, a notorious derringer that reportedly belonged to Doc and items representing the historic time period during which he lived. Learn from these items and from a short filmed actor’s portrayal of his life. Visit Doc. Glenwood Springs most famous outlaw, Doc Holiday, rests somewhere in Linwood Cemetery, though no one knows the exact location. Hike the short trail to “Doc’s” marker, and peruse other historic grave sites. Doc died in GS at the age of 36; he had contracted tuberculosis and hoped the hot springs water would cure him. The trailhead is located in downtown Glenwood Springs at the corner of 12th Street and Bennett Avenue. Follow the signs and the well-worn path to the Doc Holliday grave marker. Signs also mark the location of other points of interest including the grave of the bandit Harvey “Kid Curry” Logan. Pedal the Rio Grande or Glenwood Canyon Trail. Cycle miles of paved paths and explore at your own pace. You can rent a mountain bike or electric bike at Glenwood Adventure Company (723 Cooper Avenue / 970 945-7529).
