Rossnowlagh Seaside Village

On The Map: Rossnowlagh is a seaside village in south County Donegal. It is about 8.5 km north of Ballyshannon and 16 km southwest of Donegal Town.

Rossnowlagh is primarily known for its spectacular 3 kilometer beach. It is one of Ireland's and indeed Europe's best Blue Flag surfing beaches. Because the slowly rising beach faces westward into the Atlantic Ocean, and Donegal Bay has a funnel-like shape, it can increase the size of the waves - especially in winter when some huge rollers are generated. The beach is known to experience waves up to 7 meters (20 ft) high - no wonder it's a surfing mecca! Rossnowlagh has good safe facilities and has excellent water quality. Rossnowlagh has many visitors during the summer months. It's one of the few beaches in Ireland on which you can drive your car onto the sand via three different ramps. Drivers are cautioned however to be aware of soft sand areas where cars can get stuck, as well as incoming tides which can move in rapidly!

The Seashell & Glassroom Restaurants :

Enjoy excellent, award-winning cuisine at the Sandhouse Hotel’s elegant Seashell & Glassroom Restaurants.
Enhanced by carefully chosen and imaginative wine list, menus are designed by resident chef, John Robert McGarrigle, who has been part of the Sandhouse team for fifteen years. John and his staff use local, fresh produce - a feature of this unpolluted coast and hinterland. House specialities include Donegal Bay Salmon, Sea Trout, Scallops, Crab and Lobster, as well as Prime Beef, Lamb, Veal and Game in season.

The new Glassroom Restaurant has stunning views of Rossnowlagh Beach and Donegal Bay. While the menu changes daily all dietary needs are catered for. Dinner is served in both Restaurants from 7 to 8.30 where guests can enjoy award winning food enhanced by a huge selection of competitively priced wines.
The Seashell Restaurant at the Sandhouse Hotel serves breakfast from 8:15am -10:00am in the morning and dinner in the evening from 6:30pm - 8.30pm. Breakfast is full service - guests can enjoy a wide selection of food including fresh fruit, fresh fish as well as traditional Irish Breakfast.

The Cocktail & Surfer's bars :

Before dinner, the Cocktail Bar is the perfect meeting point for guests. As for the Surfer's Bar, guests can enjoy drinks and entertainment with beach walkers, locals and surfers, as the bar is directly opened on Rossnowlagh beach.
