Kilkenny City

On the Map: Kilkenny City lays in County Kilkenny, in the southeast midlands of Ireland. The network of roads is well-served (like the M9/N10 from Dublin (to the northeast) and N9/N10 from Waterford City (to the south)).

The ‘Marble City’ is over 400 years old and very proud of the many ancient building in town. One of the landmarks, the Kilkenny Castle, is even older: it was founded 1171. Another sight, the St. Canice’s Cathedral, is a bit younger (from the 13th century), but still very impressive. The legends and myths around the Cathedral are uncountable. The city is a dynamic place and rich in culture. The musical and visual arts are beloved by the citizens. Kilkenny won the award for ‘Foodie Destination in 2018’. In summer, there is an Arts Festival and a great Comedy Festival, the ‘Cat Laughs’. Nowadays, Kilkenny people are also known as "The Cats" as there was one a limerick created about two tribes of cats that used to fight each other:

"There once was two cats of Kilkenny
Each cat thought there was one cat too many
So they fought and they fit
And they scratched and they bit
'Til instead of two cats there weren't any."

Rosquil House probably serves the best breakfast in Kilkenny. It is absolutely delicious and topnotch, because they are very passionate about it. Especially Phil, who prepares it every morning, expects the best from what he is making and he creates something beyond expectation every morning. Using local produce whenever possible, you can get an extensive fresh buffet set with fresh and poached fruits, granola, yogurts and freshly baked treats.
