THE CULTURAL AND NATURAL WONDERS OF NORWAY & ICELAND

Kilkea Castle

Kilkea Castle is the oldest, continually inhabited castle property in Ireland. From it’s founding by Sir Walter de Riddlesford in the 12th century through today, Kilkea Castle Hotel & Golf Resort enchants and delights all those who have the pleasure of visiting. Kilkea is set amidst 100 acres of woodland, manicured gardens and an 18 hole golf course, with views over the Killeshin hills and Kildare countryside. The golf course consists of 200 acres of landscaped parkland, two man-made lakes and the River Griese, which flows majestically through the course and acts as a natural hazard. The castle boasts 35 guest rooms, including suites. Each room is unique, a step back in time but with all the luxuries of the modern world included. Gerald FitzGerald, 11th Earl of Kildare, is said to have practised magic in Kilkea Castle, and earned the nickname 'The Wizard Earl'. The Earl died in 1585 and supposedly returns to haunt the castle every seventh year, mounted on a silver-shod white charger.
