Hotel Minella

Hotel Minella is picturesquely nestled between the Comeragh Mountains and the River Suir in Clonmel Co. Tipperary. The original Georgian house was built by the Malcomsoms in 1863, and the Minella was opened as a hotel by Mr & Mrs Jack Nallen in 1963. Situated on the River Suir, in beautiful tranquil surroundings, the hotel is only a 5 minute drive from the town centre. The Minella has seen much change over the years, including up to date technology, and the addition of the award winning leisure facilities at Club Minella. Minella offers a choice of 90 Classic and Contemporary bedrooms, including 4 superior suites with balconies, two of which have private outdoor hot tubs.

Clonmel Town On The Map: Clonmel is situated in County Tipperary, in the southern midlands Ireland. Clonmel lies in a valley surrounded by several mountains and hills. The Comeragh Mountains are to the south, while east of the town is Slievenamon. The River Suir flows through Clonmel town. The earliest reference to Clonmel is circa 1185, and the town thrived in medieval times. Many remnants of this past can be found in the town itself. The town was once completely walled and a good section still remains and can be easily seen at Old St. Mary’s Church in Mary Street. Oliver Cromwell laid siege to the town in 1650. The walls were eventually breached, but not without heavy losses on Cromwell's side. Examples of period architecture include the nineteenth-century St Mary's Roman Catholic Church with ziggurat tower and portico in Irishtown which is reached via the Tudor-style nineteenth-century West Gate; the Greek revival-style Wesleyan Church on Wolfe Tone Street; and the Old St Mary's Church of Ireland with its octagonal tower and tower house. In recent times Clonmel has been home to many large multi-national companies, particularly in the pharmaceutical area.
