Netflix’s Wednesday has returned with a brand-new season—and this time, Ireland takes center stage. After filming Season 1 among the haunting castles and streets of Romania, the production moved entirely to Ireland, making it the country’s biggest television shoot to date. Much of the series was brought to life inside Ashford Studios in County Wicklow, where Nevermore Academy’s intricate interiors and other sets were built from the ground up.
But the magic didn’t stop there. To capture the gothic mood and atmosphere that Wednesday is known for, the show also made use of Ireland’s historic castles, universities, cemeteries, and gardens. These real-life locations give the series its distinctive tone—and the best part? Many of them are open to visitors who want to step inside Wednesday’s eerie world.
Here are four Wednesday filming locations in Ireland you can visit:
Charleville Castle, County Offaly
While Nevermore Academy’s exterior shots remain digitally altered images of Cantacuzino Castle in Romania, Charleville Castle provided the interiors for Season 2. Its historic staircases, arched doorways, and set-dressed interiors were transformed into the gothic corridors and classrooms of Nevermore, their period details adding authenticity and atmosphere to the show.
How to Visit: Open to the public—guided tours run daily from May to August; outside that, visits are by appointment. Ghost tours and cultural events are also occasionally hosted here.
Trinity College, Dublin

Trinity College, one of Ireland’s most iconic universities, was used as a filming location for Wednesday Season 2. Its Business School was transformed into a bustling Newark Airport terminal for scenes in the first episode, while the Gothic Phil Council Room inside the Graduates Memorial Building also made an appearance.
How to Visit: Trinity College is open year-round. Visitors can explore the campus grounds for free, or purchase tickets to see the Old Library and the Book of Kells exhibition. Guided tours are also available.
Dean’s Grange Cemetery, Dublin

Dean’s Grange, one of Dublin’s largest cemeteries, dates back to the 1860s and is known for its ornate Victorian headstones, crypts, and tree-lined avenues. Its gothic atmosphere made it a natural choice for Wednesday Season 2, where scenes with Joanna Lumley as Hester Frump (“Grandmama”) were filmed.
How to Visit: The cemetery is open to the public daily, and as it is still active, respectful exploration is encouraged. Photography enthusiasts often visit for its dramatic statuary and quiet atmosphere.
Powerscourt Estate (House & Gardens), County Wicklow
Powerscourt’s house, gardens, and waterfall all feature prominently in Season 2. The estate becomes the gothic home of new character Hester Frump, with digitally enhanced shots of Powerscourt House and Italian Gardens. In Episode 3, Nevermore’s students head to Camp Jericho, where the dramatic 121-meter waterfall and surrounding redwoods set the stage for a memorable duel. Even the estate’s historic graveyard makes an eerie appearance in night-time scenes.
How to Visit: Open daily. Visitors can tour the gardens, explore the mansion shops, enjoy lunch at Avoca Café, and take a short drive to see the 121-meter waterfall up close. Tickets are available online or at the entrance, with separate admission for the waterfall area.
Wednesday Season 2 shows off some of Ireland’s most gothic and beautiful locations, from castles and cemeteries to grand estates. Best of all, several of these filming spots—like Charleville Castle, Powerscourt, and Trinity College—welcome visitors. For fans of the series, it’s the perfect excuse to plan a trip to Ireland and explore the places that brought Nevermore to life.
