Louisville Whiskey Row

After your prohibition-era distillery tour in Louisville you may want to visit Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery, home to a legendary historic distillation system. Walk-ins are welcome on a first come first serve basis for their one hour tour, reservations can be made in advance to guarantee a spot. For lunch, you may want to stroll down to Merle's Whisky Kitchen, a toe-tappin classic whiskey hall located along Whiskey Row serving up southern & soul food.

Prohibition-Era Distillery Experience

Step back in time during this distillery tour.  You'll see the tools and equipment bootleggers used to make moonshine in the early 20's, during the time alcohol was prohibited in America. Explore a collection of historical memorabilia of that era. Hear true accounts of the wild deeds committed to produce, transport, and sell liquor. Discover how liquor is handcrafted today. Wander over to the tasting bar and enjoy the award-winning spirits.

Get an insider’s view of the Angel’s Envy distillery on Main Street, Louisville. Begin in the reception area and move into the heart of Angel’s prime distilling operation. An experience like no other, you’ll be amazed by this fully-operational urban distillery. Witness first-hand the distillation process, from beginning to finished spirit.  When you’re done, you’ll head to The Finishing Room distillery bar for a spirited tasting. Angel’s Envy is unique in so many ways.
 

The Stitzel-Weller Experience

Learn about the past, present and future of bourbon at the historic Stitzel-Weller Distillery. It’s a distillery drenched in the rich history of Bourbon’s past that’s pushing the boundaries with innovations for the future. Walk in the footsteps of bourbon legends, as you step into an active barrel house, cooper shop and micro still-house. Your journey ends with a tasting of Bulleit Bourbon, Bulleit 10-year-old, I.W. Harper NAS and Blade & Bow.

Willett Distillery Experience

Once on the distillery grounds, one begins to understand just how unique the distillery and its surroundings are. Great efforts to restore the main distillery building, cistern room, aging warehouses and many other aspects of the grounds have the left the property totally transformed, with more exciting developments in the works. From underground, spring-fed lakes, to the Kentucky split-face limestone exterior, to our old turn-of-the-century belt and pulley fan systems running throughout the distillery and visitor center, it truly makes for a memorable trip.

Strolling the streets of Bardstown, located right in the heart of bourbon country, it’s easy to understand why USA Today, and Rand McNally, named it “The Most Beautiful Small Town in America.”  It was settled in 1780, and more than 200 places in the downtown district are on the National Register of Historic Places.  As a matter of fact, there’s a stagecoach stop, built in 1779, that still stands as a tavern and restaurant. There are friendly folks, and—you guessed it—mint juleps.  Go ahead.  Soak up the local culture!

Bardstown: the Bourbon Capital of the World

Explore the charming town of Bardstown and its environs. Perhaps take a 30 minute drive south to Loretto to visit another iconic distillery; Makers Mark where they are still doing things like they did them in 1953. You'll find that the same attention to detail that goes into their bourbon has gone into preserving this place. Star Hill Farm covers more than 1,000 acres. This includes North America's first natural water sanctuary, started as part of their commitment to sustainability. Back in Bardstown, you could visit the Women's Civil War Museum or make a reservation to have dinner aboard My Old Kentucky Dinner Train.

My Old Kentucky Home State Park, Kentucky

The farm that inspired the imagery in Stephen Collins Foster's famous song, "My Old Kentucky Home, Good-Night!" is a famous and beloved historic site. Built in 1818, the three-story house originally named "Federal Hill" by its first owner Judge John Rowan became Kentucky's first historic shrine on July 4, 1923. The museum features over two centuries of antiques, paintings, and architecture. Formal gardens, outbuildings that include a smokehouse, historic kitchen, carriage house, cabin, and springhouse are set against magnolias, maples, and cedar trees

Drive to Versailles

Set off for your final location; Versailles, which is just 1 hour drive from Bardstown. Along the way, you may want to stop at Four Roses Distillery and the Wild Turkey Distillery, both along your route. Check into your country inn in Versailles, which is surrounded by old white oak, hard maple, sycamore, dogwood and magnolia trees. Also on the grounds is a brick patio for guests to enjoy breakfast, read and relax. The main house was built in 1810 and is an excellent example of early 1800’s Kentucky Vernacular architecture with stone pilasters and a dog trot.

The homes and countryside have photo-perfect, rock-lined fences, and the people love all things pertaining to bourbon, wine, and magnificent horses. There are eclectic shops, antiques, and good restaurants. Four bourbon distilleries and wineries are within 15 miles. Also, world-class bike trails, zipline, horse & hiking trails. There’s a terrific community theater, railroad museum, a spectacular quilt trail and loads of seasonal festivals. Bluegrass Kentucky charm.

Lexington: the Horse Capital of the World

After your Heritage Horse Farm Tour, explore the city of Lexington and surrounds. Perhaps visit the Distillery District with its historic distillery building and street art. There you will find the James Pepper Distillery, an iconic Kentucky Whiskey brand. Take a stroll through colorful downtown and Gratz Park and see the historic red-brick houses near Transylvania University. A must see in Lexington: the Kentucky Horse Park which features the International Museum of the Horse and various live shows like the Hall of Champions and the Parade of Breeds.

Heritage Horse Farm Tour

Enjoy a walking tour of the ivy-covered grounds of historic Keeneland Race Course, home to the planet's most expensive horse auctions. Watch horses train in the morning workouts. Take a peek into the thoroughbred horse lifestyle as you go behind the scenes to explore beautiful thoroughbred farms and visit up close with their famous horses. If you like to touch and pet horses this is certainly a tour for you! A drive by the famous Calumet Farm where you'll see and hear the history of the farm; home of a breeding and racing dynasty that dominated the sport of kings during the 1940’s, 1950’s and beyond. You’ll also see where scenes from the major motion pictures Secretariat, Seabiscuit and Dreamer were filmed. Your tour will last approximately 3 hours.
